BBQ season is upon us! So it’s time to brush up on your recipes.
But it’s not all brisket, pork butt, and baby back ribs. Don’t forget about your BBQ side dishes!
Personally, I enjoy a new exciting recipe as much as the next guy, however, we cannot forget the classics.
This post is dedicated to the classic Texas BBQ side dishes perfect for your summer barbecue side dish arsenal.
10 of The Best BBQ Side Dishes

Smoked Baked Beans

No cookout is complete without baked beans.
This recipe is not quite traditional, but I guarantee you it is delicious!
Hushpuppies
What pairs perfectly with tender, juicy brisket?
Spicy, crispy nuggets of cornmeal! You will not regret these ones.
They are always a favorite around my table and usually the first dish empty!
These are also perfect for a Super Bowl Party.
SPAM Burnt Ends

Want burnt ends but don’t have any brisket?
SPAM is the perfect alternative and makes a great side dish!
Smoked Pig Shots

These declious bacon cups filled with cheese are the perfect app.
Make sure you double your batch!
They will be gone before you know it.

Slaw (2 Epic Ways to Do It)
When it comes to slaw you have 2 options. In this post, I am going to cover both.
My favorite of the two is vinegar-based slaws (my creamy slaw is further down the list)
They are a little bit fresher and complement fatty meats and other heavy sides really well.
Onion Rings (Super Crispy and Declious)
I know, I know, French fries are really good.
But I’m sorry onion rings beat them every time!
This recipe will get you super crispy onion rings, perfect to contrast that soft, juicy brisket.
6. Collard Greens (It Ain’t a Cookout Without Em)
It’s a crime to have a labor party cookout without collard greens.
This recipe is one of my favorite. To be honest this doesn’t even have to be a side dish.
7. Creamed Corn
This ain’t no regular creamed corn. We are talking jalapeno smoked cheddar creamed corn.
This is a simple spin on classic creamed corn to die for! I like to say I’m a purist, but it’s hard to back that up with this recipe!
8. Cheese Grits
Grits are a Southern staple, and this version is about as comfort food as you can get.
Make this casserole ahead through the week and leave it in the refrigerator for the weekend.
9. Potato Salad
Tangy, creamy, and comforting!
A classic potato salad is one of the best BBQ sides out there. This recipe will quickly become one of your family’s favorite barbecue side dishes!
10. Creamy Slaw
The second slaw on this list. This slaw is mayo-based like the potato salad above, creamy and comforting!
11. Crispy Southern Fried Okra
Just like Hushpuppies crispy fried Okra is one of the first dishes to be emptied at my table.
These little crispy boys are full of flavor and the perfect side for any Texas BBQ!
