What You Need for Smoked Brownies

  • 1 box of brownie mix (Read the package to see what other ingredients you will need. You may need eggs, water, and butter or oil.)
  • 1 jar of caramel sauce (or can make your own as well, I am just lazy)
  • 10 strips bacon
  • 1/3 cup coarse sea salt

What Sort of Brownie Mix Should You Use?

We recommend using a dark chocolate brownie mix for the best results.

Read the package to see if you’ll need any extra ingredients.

Many brownie mixes require that you add eggs, water, and oil or unsalted butter.

You can always make the brownies from scratch, too. If you go this route, you’ll also need other ingredients.

Make sure you have granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, and any other ingredients.

What Is Bacon Salt?

Bacon salt is simply chopped-up bacon mixed up with salt. It’s very easy to make at home and can last up to 4 weeks if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

It’s salt, but with a punch of bacon flavor! You can use bacon salt in place of regular salt in many recipes.

Sprinkle a bit of bacon salt on your eggs. Use it on the rim of your favorite mixed drinks.

Put it in your brownies. This might seem a bit odd at first, but you’ll love fudgy brownies with a hint of bacon flavor.

Do Caramel and Bacon Go Together?

Yes, caramel and salty bacon pair quite nicely. This unlikely duo might not be the most popular pairing, but it works well.

Combining the sweetness of caramel sauce with savory bacon is delicious. Now imagine adding salt to create bacon-salted caramel. Sweet, salty, and savory for the win!

Should You Use Bacon Salt?

Bacon salt goes with brownies as it helps to cut through the sweetness. It is similar to how salt pairs so well with caramel. The key to cooking is contrasting or complementing flavors. However its up to you, don’t love salt? Leave the bacon element out, LOVE salt? Add as much as bacon salt to your brownies as you like!

How Long Do You Need to Cool the Brownies For?

While cooling the brownies allows for cleaner slicing, hot brownies are delicious.

If you choose to eat the brownies before they fully cool, be aware that they’re very hot and could burn your tongue.
