I think that the Bluetooth meat thermometer is the way of the future.
Traditionalists think they are cheating.
But I believe they have their place at the cooker especially as internal temperature is one of the important parts of cooking.

The Bluetooth Meat Thermometers – Individual Reviews
Weber iGrill 2
The Best Bluetooth Meat Thermometer Money Can Buy
It’s no surprise that the Weber iGrill 2 Bluetooth thermometer is at the top of the list when it comes to Bluetooth thermometers.
The iGrill 2 is powered by a free downloadable app and has seamless connectivity to most smartphones and tablets. There are three different versions of the iGrill on the market.
The iGrill 3, iGrill 2 and the Mini. You would assume (as did I) that the iGrill 3 is the newer most up-to-date version, however, this is not the case.
In Weber’s own words they explain the difference between the models as:
”The iGrill 2 and iGrill 3 are virtually the same unit with the exception that the iGrill 2 can act as a standalone accessory whereas the iGrill 3 is only compatible with the Genesis II and Genesis II LX grills. If you do not own a Genesis II/LX grill, we recommend checking out the iGrill 2”
Straight out of the box you get two temperature probes with the option of buying additional probes.
You can have up to 4 probes going simultaneously. This was something that we really liked, the option to have probes in 4 different cuts of meat or smokers was really handy. Weber is one of the most trusted names in the BBQ world, and with products like the iGrill, they are definitely making moves in the right direction to be one of the big names in the barbecue accessories realm.
Specifications
- Dimensions: 2.2″H x 3.2″W x 2.2″D
- Range: 150 ft
- Battery Life: 200 hours
- Probes: The standard package Includes 2 probes. However, the unit can handle up to 4
- Temperature Range: 22°F – 572°F
- Waterproof: No
- Smart Phone App: IOS and Android
Key Features
- Proximity Sensor: If you walk away from the device the display on the base unit will automatically shut off. This will automatically turn back on. This saves battery life on your own device.
- The Probe Naming Feature: One thing that we really liked about the probe was the ability to customize each of the probes names. This lets you easily glance at your device to see the temperatures of different meats/grills/ or smokers without the confusion of ‘probe 1’ ‘probe 2’.
- Probe Cord Length: The length of the cord is a massive 48”, this is great for all different types of outdoor setups. We had no issue with not having enough length for our set up.
- Temperature Range: The temperature range is large enough to cater to everyone’s needs. We tested the probes at boiling point and they consistently came back with results within one degree every time. Crucial for my cold smoked salmon recipes.
- Mobile App: The app can be downloaded form both the Google Play & App Store.
Apple: iOS 9 or higher is required, iPhone 4s upwards, iPod touch 5th generation upwards, iPad mini series, iPad 3rd generation upwards

Pros and Cons
iGrill 2 Pros
- The fantastic battery life.
- Super long 200 hour battery life.
- The extremely wide temperature range.
- Super tough rubber case with added magnet.
- Autosleep function.
- Improved device pairing – the device.
- connects within 2 seconds.
iGrill 2 Cons
- The Bluetooth connection drops off if you put your device to sleep. This is a bit of an issue if you are having a ‘low n slow’ cook when you are not planning to be around for the entire cook.
The Bottom Line
The iGrill 2 is a serious Bluetooth thermometer. It is for those of you out there that are into your tech gadgets and like to have the most up-to-date gear. The convenience, reliability, and ease of use of this device make it my favorite Bluetooth meat thermometer.
Overall the thermometer has a great range, solid construction, and plenty of features that will impress all of your guests and provide you with everything you need to create a range of delicious tasting meals.
The bottom line: If you are quite tech-savvy and enjoy having the best of things buy this thermometer, you will not be let down!

Morpilot Smart BBQ Meter Pro
Top Pick For Cooking Multiple Different types of meat
The stand-out feature on the Morpilot is a large number of probes. Right out of the box you conveniently get 6 probes.
This is great for those who tend to have large cookouts with lots of different types of meat. The probes are a modest 6.5 inches long and have a wire length of a little over 47 inches. This is long enough for most backyard setups.
Although this unit is not the most durable unit out there it does have a lot of perks that outweigh this. This unit also has a solid battery life of 200 hours.
You get a modest outdoor range of 160 ft (without anything in the line of sight) and an indoor range of 100 ft. I would advise that when using this thermometer I would take that number with a grain of salt as you do get a lot of interference throughout your house with walls, TVs, etc.
Specifications
- Dimensions: 6.5 x 6.1 x 2.6 in
- Range: 160 ft
- Probes: 6 probes included
- Wire Length: 47.2 in
- Probe Length: 6.5 in
- Temperature Range: 33℉ to 716℉
- Waterproof: No
- Battery Life: 200 hours
- Smart Phone App: IOS and Android
What I Liked
- Probes: As mentioned above this unit comes with 6 probes. Each probe is color-coded individually and correlates to a different channel. It is very easy to tell each apart due to this. You can also set different times, temperatures and alarms to each channel. Each alarm can also be personalized to what needs to be done at that specific time.
- Display: The LCD display on the unit itself is large and easy to read. This is great if you are in the backyard and have your phone in your pocket, or you need someone to yell out how things are going.
Having such a good display on a Bluetooth unit seems a little counterproductive but I’m not complaining. The display on the app is really good. Everything is laid out well and it actually looks like some good thought has gone into the design. As mentioned above everything is color coded so your chances of getting your probes confused are minimal.
The app shows the battery life of the thermometer, each probes temperature, cook time and countdown alarm. You really can’t ask for much more than that. - Construction: Overall the construction of this unit is fairly flimsy. I would highly recommend not leaving this unit out in the rain or outside overnight. If the unit was to be knocked or dropped off a table or grill I would think that it would smash by the feel of it. n saying that the probes and the connecting wires are pretty tough and durable.
- Doneness Settings: The unit comes pre programmed with 5 pre set doneness settings. Rare, medium rare, medium, medium well, well done. You can also personalize your own times and temperatures fairly simply. One of the coolest features of this unit is for each alarm you can put a custom message on it to remind you what needs to be done. Again this is a great feature to have if you are often having bigger cooks with lots of people and meat.
- Free Apps: The Morpilot Smart BBQ Meter Pro comes with an ‘always free’ app. This is downloadable on both Android and IOS. Downloading the app is simple, the user guide has a scannable QR code which takes you directly to the right store to download it to your phone.
IOS: For Apple devices the app is compatible with iPhone 4S, and later.iPod touch 5th generation. iPad 3rd generations and upwards. All iPad mini.
Android: The Android app is compatible with Android devices 4.3 or later, with blue-tooth 4.0 module.
Pros and Cons
Morpilot Pros
- Lots of probes.
- Decent battery life.
- Easy to download app.
- Preset and customizable temperature and alarm settings.
- Easy to read displays on both the base unit and app screen.
Morpilot Cons
- Seems flimsy compared to other thermometers.
- The warranty process is very unclear
- Accuracy could be better.
My Final Thoughts
Overall the Morpilot Smart BBQ Meter Pro is a good unit. It is not the cheapest Bluetooth thermometer out there, however, I do still think that is worth the price. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. If you take care and be careful around the base unit you should have no issues at all.
When it comes to accuracy, it seems to run a little hot by 5 – 10 degrees. This is good to know from the get go – it took me a little longer to work this out than it should have.
The Bottom Line: For the price, you get a decent Bluetooth meat thermometer. Out of the box, it is easy to use and you can simultaneously keep track of 6 different food items.
My Rating: 4.6 / 5 Stars
Cappec Luxury Wireless Bluetooth Thermometer
Cappec is a name that is becoming more and more well known in the world of BBQ. They started off and got their name out there in the mainstream with their infrared thermometer. Since then Cappec has been building a loyal fanbase. I myself, one of them.
The Cappec Luxury Bluetooth Meat thermometer is their high-end model and boasts incredible accuracy, modern features, and a sleek modern design. One of the best parts of this model is the price. You really can not get more bang for your buck.
Specifications
- Dimensions: 3.1″H x 1″W x 3.1″ D
- Range: 100 feet
- Probes: Package includes 2 probes
- Temperature Range: -4°F – 482°F

- Smart Phone App: IOS and Android
Features
- LCD Display: The unit also comes with a handy display. This display has an orange backlight making it very clear to see in both daylight and twilight.
- Dual Probe: Two probes are included in with the unit. The LCD screen can also read both probes simultaneously.
- Mobile App: The Cappec mobile app is available for free download from both the IOS and Google Play stores. You can use this thermometer without connecting it to your smartphone, however, the functionality of the app is brilliant and definitely recommended. The set up is self-explanatory. Once you have the app, all you have to do is pair your smart device up to the thermometer and you are ready to go.
- The Library: The library was my favorite feature of this thermometer, the library lets you choose from different meats an cooking styles, then the thermometer does the rest of the work. Do you want ribs? Select ribs and wait for the notification when they are done, it’s truly brilliant!
- Temperature Adjust: If your smokers temperature is running a little lower than it should be, the thermometer will take that into account and automatically adjust its cooking time. This is the same if your smoker is running a little hotter than it should be. This thermometer really does take all the guesswork out of cooking.
- Aluminum Case: The outside of the unit is constructed of aluminum. This is easy to clean, durable and also looks really good.
Pro and Cons
Cappec Pros
- Dual probes come standard
- settings.
- Additional pre set doneness levels for Rare, medium rare, medium, medium well and well done.
- Accurate temperature readings.

The Cappec Luxury Bluetooth Meat thermometer is a thermometer for those of you who enjoy having the latest tech gadgets wrapped in a modern shell. The design is easy on the eyes, the display is very clear and easy to understand The unit is filled with lots pr preset settings which make cooking with this thermometer a breeze.
I like the option of not having to connect your phone for every use, this turns the Bluetooth thermometer into your everyday wireless thermometer. The bottom line: If you are quite tech savvy and enjoy having the best of things buy this thermometer, you will not be let down!

Weber iGrill Mini Bluetooth Thermometer
If you are looking for a top-quality Bluetooth meat thermometer but don’t want to splash out on one of the more expensive thermometers the iGrill Mini is for you. Essentially the iGrill Mini is the same as its big brother the iGrill 2. However, it has been stripped down to the bare minimum.
It comes with only 1 thermometer probe and is only capable of having 1 thermometer running at a time. This is great for those of you who are not so tech-savvy and just need a basic Bluetooth thermometer to get the job done.
The unit is smaller than the iGrill2 thus has less battery power. It has around 150 hours of battery power compared to the 200 hours from the iGrill2. I found the iGrill Mini is a great option for those who have an existing meat / ambient temperature thermometer.
Specifications
- Battery Life: 150 hours
- Probe: Package includes 1 probe
- Temperature Range: 22°F – 572°F
- Waterproof: No
- Smart Phone App: IOS and Android
- Range: 150 ft
- Dimensions: 2.2″H X 3.2″W X 2.2″D

- Temperature Range: The temperature range is large enough to cater to everyone’s needs. We tested the probes at boiling point and they consistently came back with results within one degree every time.
- Magnet Backing: The backing of the unit has a strong magnet. This is perfect for sticking to the grill, bench top or other outdoor surfaces. I had no issues with the unit slipping or falling off, even during longer cooks.
- Mobile App: The app can be downloaded form both the Google Play & App Store.
Apple: iOS 9 or higher is required, iPhone 4s upwards, iPod touch 5th generation upwards, iPad mini seriesiPad 3rd generation upwards
Android: Most Android phones running Android 4.4 or higher and Bluetooth 4.0 or higher.
Pros and Cons
iGrill Mini Pros
- The App is extremely easy to use, even for those who are not so tech savvy.
- The device pairing has been upgraded, I had no issues with the initial connection or re connecting.
- The temperature precision is second to none.
- The unit is quite small making it perfect for storing in the kitchen draw.
- The longer probe cord is perfect for almost any set up. There is plenty of length to have the unit sat on the grill side, or nearby table.
iGrill Mini Cons
- Again the Bluetooth dropping out is an issue with the Mini.
- Short battery life.
- Only one probe.
For me, the iGrill Mini slides into the same category as the iGrill 2. It is a fantastic thermometer that is a solid contender for my favorite Bluetooth meat thermometers out there.
The iGrill Mini is slightly more useful for those of you who have existing thermometers and just need another for ambient temperatures. Or if you are planning on having a big session and need a cheap, reliable, and faultless backup Bluetooth thermometer. If you are not so tech-savvy and are looking for something that is a bit more high-tech than your average digital meat thermometer. The Bottom Line: The iGrill Mini is a fantastic little Bluetooth meat thermometer and is the best you will get at this price point.
My Rating: 4.4 / 5 Stars
Looking For Some Cheaper Thermometer Options?
If you aren’t looking for a Bluetooth meat thermometer I would recommend checking out the Maverick range. I think that both the Maverick et-732 & Maverick et-733 are top-notch quality.
Hungry For More?

Adam
Hi Adam,
You totally right after all that work the last thing you want is to burn anything!! Both the iGrill2 or Cappec Bluetooth thermometers have a range of 150 feet. Unless your living in a castle (which I would be very jealous about) I think both would be a good option!
