Patio steak is an affordable and amazing steak that comes from the shoulder blade area of the cow. It is also called flat iron steak or oyster blade steak.

What Makes Patio Steak Tender?

Patio steaks are the second most tender cut of steak, after the filet mignon. The meat is has a generous marbling that runs through it. The fat will melt during cooking and will leave the meat tasty and moist.

What To Serve With Patio Steak

The steak can be eaten with roasted vegetables, potatoes, smoked macaroni and cheese, corn, or a nice bbq steak sandwich. It is also an excellent choice for stir-frying.

How To Cook Patio Steak.

There are different ways to cook a patio steak! Patio stakes can be cooked in a cast-iron skillet, an outdoor grill, on a cedar plank, a gas grill, a salt block, in a pellet grill or in an oven. They can also be broiled, grilled, pan-seared, or cooked using the sous vide technique. The FDA suggests that the minimum internal cooking temperature for steak is 145°F. A meat thermometer can be used to check the internal temperature. Patio steaks are best enjoyed when they are cooked medium-rare.

It is also important to ensure that the patio steak is completely thawed before cooking it.

How To Cook Patio Steak In The Oven.

The patio steak can be broiled in an oven. Follow these simple steps to broil the steak.

Step 1: Let the steak rest to room temperature, tenderize the meat, and then season it.

Step 2: Set the oven to broil and preheat for 8 minutes

Step 3: Place the meat on the broiler pan and broil for 12 minutes to get a medium-rare steak.

Step 4: Let the steak rest for 5-8 minutes before eating.

How To Cook Patio Steak Over The Stove.

Patio steaks can be cooked over a stovetop using a flat iron skillet or a wok. Cooking oil or butter should be heated in the skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot cook the seasoned steak to your desired donesness.

Getting Your Steak Cooked Right

The key to grilling steak is ensuring that the meat has the right internal temperature. This can be checked with a meat thermometer.

If you’d prefer your steak cooked medium-well, grill the steak for 3 minutes per side. The steak should also have an internal temperature of 155°F.

When cooked medium-well, the steak will be slightly pink on the inside and brown on the outside.

If you’d prefer your steak cooked medium-rare, grill the steak for 2 minutes per side. The steak should also have an internal temperature of 135°F.

When cooked medium-rare, the steak will be pink on the inside and slightly brown on the outside.

Alternatively, If you’d prefer the steak cooked rare, grill the steak for 1.5 minutes per side. The steak should also have an internal temperature of 125°F.

When cooked rare, the steak will have a bright red color on the inside and pink towards the outside.

How to Grill Patio Steak.

Here is a simple flat iron steak recipe that can be prepared on a grill. 

Step 1: Take the meat from the refrigerator 40 minutes before grilling

Step 2: Rinse the steak and pat dry.

Step 3: Season the meat with salt and black pepper on both sides.

Step 4: Set the grill to medium-high heat. Note: if you’re using a pellet grill using the flame broiler and ensure the slider is open.

Step 5: Cook the meat to your desired doneness

Step 6: Let the meat rest for 5 minutes, serve with sweet potatoes and roasted vegetables.

Delicious Marinade for Patio Steak

Step 1: In a medium bowl, mix salt, pepper, paprika, and other seasonings.

Step 2: Place the steak in the bowl and rub the seasonings on both sides

Step 3: Soak the seasoned steak in lemon juice.

Step 4: Place the season seak and marinade in an airtight bag.

Step 5: Let the steak marinate in the fridge overnight or for 2 hours.

The lemon juice in this marinade recipe can be replaced with beer, red wine, or olive oil.
