How to Smoke and Grill Carrots on a Traeger

Below is my simple steps for grilled and smoked carrots, the perfect side for a cookout or weeknight meal.

Step 1: Prepare The Carrots

Load the pellets, preheat the Traeger grill to 300°F, peel and wash the carrots.

-Try to keep them whole if they are of a similar size. (If not, then cut to the same size)

– Dry and then cover lightly with olive oil.

– Sprinkle the cayenne, salt, and black pepper.

Place the carrots on a baking tray evenly apart.

Step 2: Make The Butter and Honey Glaze

In a bowl combine the honey, butter. minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, brown sugar, onion powder and water, stir to combine

Place in the microwave for 20 seconds and remove and stir, put back in the mircowave for longer if the butter hasn’t melted.

Step 3: Smoking The Carrots

– Place the baking tray of carrots in the Traeger grill. Close the Traeger’s lid and grill the carrots for 35 minutes.

Open and check for if they are cooked though. You can turn them if you like Brush the glaze evenly over all of the carrots. Reserve some glaze for serving

Smoke with the lid open for a further 5 minutes.

Step 4: Remove The Carrots From The Smoker, Serve & Enjoy

Remove the carrots and cover with foil until your ready to serve. Use the remaining glaze to top the carrots and top with the parsley

Why Smoking Carrots On A Traeger Works So Well

The reason why I love smoking on my Traeger so much is mainly because there isn’t any worrying about maintaining or monitoring a constant temperature.

But really my favorite thing is you can have you main dish like ribs or brisket cooking away and you can throw you carrots on the side. Its means you have a super simple side that looks good and tastes even better.

What Type of Carrots You Can Use to Smoke

Our recipe focuses on the Chanteny variety which is the most popular and widely grown. But almost any smoking recipe or preparation for others can be used.

Don’t limit yourself!

Imperator Carrots

This variety tends to be long and slender. Slender carrots are best cut into uniform 1-inch pieces or ‘chips’ Cook on medium heat with light smoke for 25-30 minutes. Enjoy the carrots as a crispy snack straight from the baking tray!

Baby Carrots

This variety is smaller and condensed in flavor. Take advantage of the carrot flavor by infusing them with heavy smoke. Wrap in a piece of bacon for the ultimate holiday dinner appetizer.

Nantes Carrots

The highest sugar content variety. You won’t be needing to add extra sweetness like brown sugar or a honey glaze.Smoke slowly with indirect heat and watch natural sugars bubble away!

What Temperature Do I Set The Traeger?

You should smoke your carrots at 300°F for 30-40 minutes.

How Long Do You Need to Smoke The Carrots For?

At 300°F the cooking time will average at around 30 40 minutes.

What If I Don’t Have A Traeger Pellet Smoker?

A charcoal smoker or gas smoker will work fine, just be extra careful of the cooking temperature.
