Basic Barbecue Sauce Recipe

This is my tried and true basic BBQ sauce recipe. It is a fantastic base to build on to make a truly unique BBQ sauce!

- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 1/2 cayenne pepper
- 3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 3 finely chopped garlic cloves
- 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Pre heat your olive oil in a saucepan over a medium heat and add in your onions. Saute until translucent. Add in your garlic and stir through for 30 seconds.
Add in the rest of your ingredients and bring to a gentle simmer.
Simmer gently for 45 minutes stirring regularly. If you notice your sauce getting to thick add in a little bit more water and turn the heat down.
Once at a nice thick consistency take off the heat. You can use it straight away, or for best results and a more in-depth flavor cool to room temperature then place in a jar and refrigerate for 1 - 2 days. Shake well before using.
