How to Make Smoked Turkey Sliders

Step 1: Assemble the sliders

  • Preheat the oven to 400 F. Stir together the Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, lemon juice, and black pepper.
  • Slice the rolls in half lengthwise, removing the tops in one piece. Place the bottom half of the rolls onto a sheet pan.
  • Spread the dijon mixture evenly over the bottom buns.
  • Arrange the smoked turkey slices over the bottom buns, folding each piece over one bun at a time for easier pulling apart.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the turkey.
  • Then, place the top buns onto the sliders.
  • Melt butter, and stir in the minced garlic and chopped chives.
  • Brush the garlic butter over the tops of the rolls.

Step 2: Cook the Sliders

  • Cover the sliders with foil and bake for 15 minutes on the lowest rack.
  • Brush another layer of garlic butter. Bake uncovered for ten more minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  • Serve immediately, and enjoy.

Variations

You can easily tweak this recipe. Here are some of our favorite ideas!

Cheese

Sharp cheddar cheese is the best choice, but there are plenty of delicious cheeses that will work.

  • Swiss cheese
  • Havarti cheese
  • Gouda cheese
  • Goat cheese

Just pick your favorite type of cheese! Any type of melty cheese sliders will be delicious!

Sauce

Barbecue sauce is a long-time favorite, but you can use any sauce. If you have a special sauce recipe, this is the time to bring it out!

The following are some of our favorite types of barbecue sauce:

  • Sweet and spicy BBQ sauce
  • Chipotle BBQ cranberry sauce
  • Carolina mustard BBQ sauce

You can even make your own if you have the right sauce ingredients.

What Kind of Turkey to Use?

You can use leftover turkey or deli turkey for this recipe. You can even smoke your turkey ahead of time!

What Rolls to Use?

Sweet rolls make the best slider buns. King’s Hawaiian rolls are the best in the business.

However, there are cheaper options that will still taste delicious. And trust me: nobody will know the difference when you serve these!

Should I Wrap The Sliders In Tinfoil Before Smoking?

If you wrap the sliders with foil before smoking, this will block some of the smoky flavor. Don’t wrap them if you want extra flavor from the pellet grill. Grab a piece of foil if you only want a hint of the smoke flavor!

You’ll need a large piece of foil to wrap these Hawaiian rolls. Be sure to remove the foil a few minutes before you cook, as this will allow the tops to become beautifully golden brown.

What Temperature to Cook Turkey Sliders at

Smoke or oven-bake the turkey sliders at 400°F.

Since the ingredients are fully cooked, we need the cheese to melt! The buttery sauce on the tops will also turn brown when they reach peak deliciousness!

What Internal Temperature You Need to Reach

Turkey must reach a safe temperature of 165°F. The internal temperature is not that important since the turkey is already cooked. However, warm turkey will have a better mouthfeel with the hot cheese!

How Long to Cook Turkey Sliders

In this recipe, we smoke the sliders for 15 minutes at 400°F. You will increase the cooking time if you use a lower temperature. Decrease the cooking time if you use a higher temperature.

The important part is that the butter mixture is golden brown, and the cheese is melted.

How To Store Leftovers

Leftover turkey sliders can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 4 days. However, they won’t last that long!

If you have an appropriate container, they will freeze for even longer. Just give them plenty of time to thaw when ready to eat them.

My Favorite Wood Chips for Smoked Turkey Sliders

Applewood chips are great for a mild flavor. Hickory chips are better if you want a stronger, smoky taste.
