When you think about flat top grills, I bet you think about your local burger shop. Flat tops are a popular piece of equipment for restaurants and eateries. This is because they are very versatile, easy to maintain and one of my favorite parts – easy to clean.
The good news is you don’t have to be a restaurant owner to reap the benefits of cooking on a flat top grill.
In this post we will be looking at the important factors to keep an eye out for when buying a flat top grill, and also looking at the 5 best flat top grills for the home cook.
Quick Overview of the Best 5 Flat Top Grills
Why Use A Flat Top Grill?
Unlike a natural gas smoker flat top grills are convenient and versatile for cooking, grilling & searing.
They come in a wide range of styles and sizes, so you can use them to cook for a crowd or large family. But you can also find one to hide away in the RV for a weekend camping trip.
You could say that flat top grills are have similarities to skillets. However, flat tops (as the name suggests) do not have sides. So, you can easily and playfully flip your food around while grilling.
Using a flat top grill will also give your food a crisp and crunchy texture. If you enjoy your food on the crispier, then you should consider getting this style of ‘grill’.
Flat top grills are simple to use as well as setting up. Another bonus is that cooking on a flat top can be a healthier alternative. This is because grease drips off the food through holes. Although flat tops are fairly basic they can do a little more than just cooking and grilling food. Many of these grills have a function that will keep your food warm, just like a microwave.
Another great thing about flat top grills is that they do not drop ash on food or your cooking setup. They are also easy to maintain. If you like an enhanced and smoky flavor of BBQ, then flat top grills may just be the one for you.
What to Look For in A Flat Top Grill
There are so many types of flat top grills to choose from, so you need to know what to look out for to get the best model for your own specific needs and cooking style.
The cooking space is important if you want to use the grill for a party or cookout. The space also makes it easy to grill large chunks of meat and cook food. But that can’t be all to look for in a flat top grill.
You should find out about the size and shape of the drainage holes. Flat top grills are supposed to remove grease from your food through these holes. Healthy food is important, so make sure that the size and shape of the drainage suit your cooking style and cooking preferences.
Another thing to watch out for is the surface material. You wouldn’t want your food to stick to the grill every time you cook with it. Look out for non-stick surface material, especially those that are durable.
The type of fuel the grill uses is also essential. You can select from either electric or gas flat top grills. Each different type has its own pros and cons. You should also consider the number of burners that a flat top grill has. A grill with more burners will have a better distribution of temperature to the food.
Cleaning and Maintenance of Flat Top Grills
Your grill has to be cleaned properly after every use. This will help prolong the life of your grill and ensure that your food always tastes good. After several uses, your flat top should still have a shiny silver look. You have to clean your flat top grill every time you use it to maintain it properly.
Two problems that could affect your grill are rusting and black coloring. Black coloring is caused by accumulated seasonings from food. Pour oil on the grill when it is not in use. Use a scraper to slide vertically and horizontally across the cooking surface. These motions will remove the black material from the cooking space. You could also clean the grill again when it is switched on to give it a better look.
The problem of rusting can be solved in two ways. Sprinkling oil before and after every use is one way of preventing your grill from rusting. Otherwise, you could coat the cooking surface with the same material it was made from.

- Adjustable Heat Zone: One standout feature of the Blackstone 36-inch Flat top grill that I love is its adjustable heat zones. These zones allow you to cook several meals at the same time. That is why a lot of restaurants use this griddle for cooking. The great part is that I don’t have to worry about the temperature of all I am cooking. The heat zones have individual gauges to help regulate the temperature. You can even cook some food while warming others. I find this to be an excellent use of its 720 square inches cooking space.
You will notice that these heat zones cook quickly. There is no physical stop or demarcation of these zones. But, that’s not a problem. Each cooking space has a fast ignition button. You can use this to start-off the temperature of the griddle from where you left off. The 36-inch Blackstone flat top grill is perfect when I need to cook meals for my friends, and everyone wants to eat something different.
- Large Cooking Space: You would expect to get a lot done with the space of this flat top grill! Its large cooking space is very convenient to use. When eating with my friends, we love the whole, large foods. A regular-sized grill cannot handle so much food, and it is frustrating to cook food in batches. But with the Blackstone 36-inch outdoor flat top grill, I can cook and grill as much food as I want.
This large cooking space is impressive for cooking family meals or food for parties. You should know that the cooking area is not just the width multiplied by the depth. The grease tray is also included in the cooking space of this flat top grill. The 36-inch Blackstone grill has more height than width and depth. That means you will be able to get more grease out of your food.
You can set the temperature of the grill to heat your food evenly. Other times, you may just want to cook a small meal on the grill to get that Mr. Brown. This flat top grill has a large-enough cooking space for you to use.
- Portable griddle: For a grill this large, I find it very convenient to move from one place to another. Initially, it just looked like one big, stationary flat top grill that I have to use in one location. But the 36-inch Blackstone outdoor grill is far from being stationary. It has four legs and four wheels that make it portable and movable.
The four legs of the grill provide the balance and support it needs. They are all of equal lengths, so you will know when the floor is not even. But, it’s the wheels that caught my attention when I saw the 36-inch Blackstone flat top grill. It’s the perfect kind of grill to move about.
The 36-inch flat top grill is supposed to be used outdoors, but when it rains, what do you do? Without these wheels, it would have been difficult carrying a 120-pound grill, even if I did that with my friends. You can lock the and legs if you want the grill to be steady.
- High Heat supply: A flat top grill with a high BTU does not make a pit master. But it is difficult to ignore the thermal unit of the 36-inch Blackstone flat top grill. This grill has an impressive 15,000 BTU supply of heat. And, this heat is supplied to all its four burners! When you need to cook food quickly, this grill is perfect for you.
I was shocked to see the 36-inch Blackstone grill heats from 0 to 500F in a couple of minutes. Initially, you may find it difficult to know how much oil to use at a time. Also, the heat settings may take a while to get a hang off. But when you get used to it, cooking becomes easier.
A full propane tank will also be of help. This grill is perfect for cooking at high heat, searing, and stir-frying. You can always alter the heat supplied to each burner with the temperature controls.
- Rear Grease Management System: A new feature of the Blackstone grills is the rear grease system. If you take a close look at the cooking space of the 36-inch Blackstone grill, you will notice a little hole at the back. This hole is used to drain grease from your food to the grease cup. Unlike in other flat top grills, the rear grease management system works very well.
Instead of hot grease coming towards you as you cook, you can just scrape it towards the hole. If the grease isn’t so much, you could let it drip by itself. But, be careful not to scrape your food off the cooking space! Also, the cup has to be placed directly under the hole to catch the grease.
The easy part is that this grease management system makes it very easy to clean up after cooking. You could also get the big surround accessory. Who says you can’t modify the surround or the trap to get rid of grease?
The 36-inch Blackstone griddle does not come assembled. You will require assistance, so, as I did, you can set up your grill when your kids are idle. It takes a maximum of 15 minutes to put everything together, and it is a fun process. The manual in the box is also very easy to follow and understand. You will need a hammer and wrench, which are not provided in the box.
Start by removing the packs with the bolt, hardware, side handle, and drip cup. Have someone help you remove the griddle’s body and top. However, be careful. You wouldn’t want to break your griddle before you get to use it. Install the tray when the griddle’s body is on its back. Don’t install the griddle while it is upright. I guarantee that it will fall on you if you do that. The screws, bolts, and nuts should be used to install the appropriate parts. No one likes to cook with a wobbly grill.
Make sure every bolt, nut, and screw is properly tightened. The arrows of the four control knobs should be facing upwards after installing them. Also, don’t forget to put the battery in the ignition hole.
Follow all the instructions in the manual religiously. In no time, your grill should be set up.
I can say that the 36-inch Blackstone is one of the best flat top grills you can ever get. The griddle top is protected by a rust-preventing oil that you have to remove before setting it up. The cooking surface is smooth and even. Gliding a scraper across the cooking surface is like going down a water slide.
A well-cleaned and optimally seasoned cooking space will give you a shiny black cooking surface. When you get this tone of black on the cooking space, your food will taste like it was made in a fancy restaurant.
Cleaning the 36-inch Blackstone grill is easy peasy. With a spray oil and a chainmail scrapper, you could get your griddle to look brand new in 5 minutes. There are two side shelves and a bottom shelf for storage, so tools are accessible with this griddle. These shelves can be reached when the cart legs are folded down. The wheels on this grill make it portable, but I recommend you keep it stationary if you cannot move it by yourself.
Cooking with this flat top grill is so much fun. The high heat settings make it easy to get a bark. You might even get a shiner if you are not careful. It cooks and grills quickly!
The 36-inch Blackstone grill is made of metal in almost every part. It is one of the most durable flat top grills available. The burners of the grill are made from stainless steel. So, there is no threat of corrosion to them, unlike in other grills. It has a black-coated steel frame, for good conduction of the heat that will be supplied.
The surface of the griddle is made from thick cold-rolled steel. This type of stainless steel has a close dimensional tolerance and great surface finish. That’s why the cooking surface of the grill is so smooth. Also, the cold-rolled steel surface provides good retention of heat for either grilling or cooking. I like the fact that the cold-rolled steel surface is also non-stick.
The cart legs of the 36-inch Blackstone grill is made from steel. You need a strong material like steel to hold the weight of the grill. The four caster wheels make the grill moveable.
The 36-inch Blackstone griddle is a strong outside grill. Its weight of 120 pounds does not allow it to get tipped over easily. So, there’s no need to be frightened about getting a broken or damaged part. Its frame has a black coating, but still, try not to scratch it. If you’re looking for a flat top grill that will last you for a while, this 36-inch Blackstone is for you.
The 36-Blackstone griddle has a 90 days warranty on all finishes, parts, and workmanship. The manufacturing company will decide whether to replace or repair any of the items that the warranty covers.
The warranty of this griddle is only binding if you follow the manufacturers’ instructions. Blackstone will not be liable for damages when you use the griddle inappropriately.

The 36-inch Blackstone is an advanced griddle that is very easy to use. There is so much to love in its 720 square inch cooking space. Not only does the surface cook well, but it also heats up very fast. The quality of its cold-rolled steel is one of the best I have seen so far.
Another feature that makes me love the 36-inch Blackstone griddle is its heating system. This griddle can light up fast. The four heating zones and controls allow you to cook many meals at the same time. The burners produce so much heat that you can get a blowout if you are not careful. There is no need to power cook with the 36-inch Blackstone griddle. I also like that this flat top grill is durable. The black-coated steel body is very attractive and lasts long. It has wheels and legs that make the griddle moveable.
Like me, you may be disappointed not to get a grill cover, but Blackstone provides that as an accessory. I find it very easy to assemble over and over again. Although you would need help to assemble the flat top grill, it is not a complex procedure. The aroma from the food while cooking with a Blackstone griddle is heavenly. The quality of the food is excellent, and so is the taste. And the best part is that you can cook anything with this flat top grill!
For a little over $200, the 36-inch Blackstone provides an advanced system of draining grease. You do not need to keep placing a drip tray everywhere you cook, unlike in other griddles. The 36-inch flat top grill is suitable for intermediates and professionals. Also, a beginner who needs to cook quickly for a party will find it useful. You will get value for your money with this Blackstone flat top grill.
Blackstone 22 inch Stainless Steel Griddle
- Dimensions: 22.5 x 19 x 9 inches
- Weight: 32 pounds
- Grilling Area: 330 sq. inches
- Fuel Type: Propane
- Construction: Grill mounted on a heating base with a propane supply tube.
- Grill Construction: Rectangular cold-rolled steel grill top
- Wheels: No
- Legs: Yes, as an accessory
- Handles: No
- Adjustable Heat Zones: The 22-inch Blackstone griddle is known for its quick-heating zones. This product has two adjustable heat zones that you can use in cooking and grilling. This means that you can cook or grill two meals at the same time on the 22-inch Blackstone griddle. What caught my attention was how versatile these zones are. If you need two quickly made meals, then this product is just for you.
The grill has two knobs to control the heating system. There is no demarcation of the heating zones, which is a design feature that I like. So, you can cook or grill in one zone and warm food in another.
The two heating zones are supplied by H burners. These burners are connected to the propane tank and are made from stainless steel. One of the ducts of the H burner is attached to the propane tank. The remaining ducts are connected internally to the heat zones of the griddle. I like that the zones of the 22-inch Blackstone griddle heat non-flaringly.
- Portable: You can pack the 22-inch Blackstone grill in your traveling box. It is that small and portable! With its 22.5-inch length and 19-inch width, you can also fit this griddle in small corners around your house. Unlike larger flat top grills, this version of Blackstone’s collection of griddles does not have wheels.
The 22-inch Blackstone griddle is very convenient to use and clean. The grill’s 330 square inch is just the perfect size to move about. If you love backyard barbeques, camping, and tailgating, you will know that it is difficult to move heavy griddles. But, you can easily fit the 22.5-inch griddle in your boot. It has a lightweight of 32 pounds.
A stand can come with the 22.5-inch Blackstone griddle or be bought as an accessory. In either case, attaching a stand to the griddle will make it more portable. However, if you don’t want a stand, you can still carry the 22-inch Blackstone griddle from its base.
- Rear Grease Management System: Blackstone has developed a new system to rid off grease while cooking. The rear grease management system is easy and effortless to use. This grease management system that is used in the 22.5 Blackstone griddle is convenient, unlike drip tray systems.
A rectangular hole is made at the back of the grill surface for grease to fall to. Unlike drip trays, grease is removed by scraping it upward to the hole. At the back of the 22-inch Blackstone, the griddle has a grease cup that receives grease from food. You have got to get this new feature right or else you’d make a mess with the grill.
Also at the back of the 22-inch griddle are ten slots to fit the grease cup. The cup cannot be placed in one position because food may be cooked in either of the two zones. Make sure that the grease cup is placed in the slot that will collect grease while cooking. You should empty the cup and wash it after every meal cooked.
- Large cooking surface: The cooking space of the 22-inch Blackstone griddle is quite impressive for its weight. You can cook or grill two whole meals on the 330 square inch surface of this griddle. If you need a couple’s griddle, then this product should top your list.
The cooking space of this flat top grill is made out of non-stick material. However, you still have to apply oil to the surface every time you need to cook. I recommend that you do not use a spatula or scraper roughly on the surface of the grill. An uneven surface or scratch will ruin how fast it can grill.
The cooking space is mounted on the base of the grill. Looking from on top, the cooking surface has a rectangular shape. However, from the sides, it appears triangular. The surface of the 22-inch Blackstone griddle has side height that works like stoppers to prevent your food from falling off while cooking. The surface of this griddle is made from cold-rolled steel.
- High heat supply: The 22-inch Blackstone griddle brings it’s A-game to the battle of burners. It has an impressive 24,000 BTU on each burner. It is an exciting feature when compared to the capacity of other heavy-duty griddles in the market.
The heat is stored in a propane tank and supplied constantly when the power is turned on. The burners accept the heat from the propane tank and then supplies them to the surface of the griddle. This supply of heat is done through ducts that are in the shape of H. The fascinating thing about this high heat supply is that no-flaring happens. Even though propane is used as the fuel, no fume is produced.
You wouldn’t get a blue smoke from cooking or grilling with this Blackstone griddle. The best sign you would get that your food is cooking is from the vaporized oil. I love this griddle because of how quickly it heats up and cooks meals.
It is quite easy to set up the 22-inch Blackstone griddle. It will take about 15 minutes to assemble all the parts if you would be doing it alone. I usually need assistance when assembling parts, but it’s a process you can handle on your own. However, you have to be very careful so that you don’t break any part before you even use it. Every griddle comes with an instruction manual which you can follow in setting up your product.
The 22-inch Blackstone griddle does not come fully assembled, so you need to put most of the parts together. The griddle top, nuts, and screws, H burners and base are all packaged in boxes by the manufacturer. Carefully open these boxes before proceeding to assemble all parts. You will need a screwdriver, as it is not included as a tool in the delivery box.
It is advisable to fix the feet of the grill’s base first before any other part. I recommend you put the base on its side to do this. After carrying this step out, you can proceed to fix the grill’s top to the base. Don’t forget to put the knobs of the two heat zones before connecting the propane tank. Also, remember to put the grease cup in place before you run and season your griddle.
This grill functions just as great as you would expect. You can cook and grill any kind of food with it, which is a plus for me. Seasoning the griddle is easy to get done. If you follow the instructions in the manual, you shouldn’t have anything to stress you up. Heating and cooling affect the steel and cast-iron parts, but this is expected.
The 22-inch Blackstone griddle is a heavy-duty portable flat top grill. It’s cooking surface is smooth and made of non-stick material. You can easily glide through the surface of this griddle top to remove food or grease. The temperature controls are just right for the heating settings. There is a wide range of temperatures to select from when cooking and grilling in this flat top grill.
Cleaning the 22-inch griddle is so easy that my kids help me out with it sometimes. I recommend you follow the instructions that are included in the manual on how to clean the surface of the griddle and give it that shiny look. Also, remember to clean the grease cup after every use. The standard 22-inch griddle does not come with any storage system, shelf or compartment to hang tools. It is a portable tailgater that cooks food very well.
By merely looking at the 22-inch Blackstone griddle, you would know that this is one tough flat top grill. It has a stainless steel case which is of A-grade material. The case is black coated to conduct the heat that would be generated. The stainless-steel case of this griddle also protects it from corroding when used outdoors. The handle, which is also made of stainless steel, doesn’t come with the device, but as an accessory.
If you get the stand with the griddle, then you would notice that it is made from pretty much the same material. However, the feet of the grill are usually not coated black like every other part. The griddle top is riveted into the base, so it can break off if the grill ever falls.
You can use the 22-inch griddle every day without worrying about breaking some parts. Even though the 22-inch griddle is portable, always carry it with someone. The feet on the flat top griddle are fragile, so do not slam it on surfaces. You should always store the griddle in a dry place.
The 22-inch griddle, like other Blackstone griddles, has a 90-day warranty on all parts, finishes, and workmanship. You would be required to show proof of purchase, so keep all documents handy. The decision on whether to replace or repair the parts or finishes will be made by the company.
- Very durable
- Heats up quickly
- Adjustable heat zones
- Level cooking surface
- Short warranty period
- No grill cover
- Frequent malfunctioning of the burner
- Steel case heats up and warps
- Stiff temperature knobs
What more can you ask for from a quality griddle that you cannot get in the 22-inch Blackstone grill? It is an excellent grill for cooking family meals, tailgating, and light-camping. The adjustable heating zone of this grill is great. The fact that you can cook or warm two meals on one grill is really exciting. Just like any other grill, you have to season it before every use. The only challenge you may have is knowing where to heat your food. The burners don’t heat evenly in both zones, and the whole grill surface may not get conditioned evenly.
The cooking space is large enough to cook any meal. It doesn’t have the largest space but can fit 8 burgers at once. The non-stick and cold-rolled steel used in making the surface makes it easy to remove food and grease. Did I mention that it is very easy to clean? Just follow the instructions on the manual to the letter to get a clean grill after every use.
The flavor of the food made with this grill is exquisite. Since there is no timer in the griddle, you may have to rely on the condition of your food before taking it out of the grill. Otherwise, you could follow the heating recommendations that are included in the manual. It has just the right weight such that anyone can move it easily.
The product uses a 1-pound propane tank which would last for a little over 2 hours at medium heat. The 22-inch Blackstone grill is durable and made from the best quality of stainless steel. I prefer to use this grill outdoors, and you should too. The wind can help to reduce the heating effect of the steel case. For a little under $200, you could cook and grill your meals faster. Anyone can use this grill as it is very easy to operate.
Cuisinart – Two Burner Portable Outdoor Griddle
- Dimensions: 21 x 20.5 x 9 inches

- Grilling Area: 285 square inches
- How Much Food Can It Hold: 8 burgers at once
- Fuel Type: Propane
- Construction: Griddle top placed on the base
- Grill Construction: Cold-rolled steel and non-stick material
- Wheels: No
- Legs: Yes. Four
- Handles: Yes
- Thick cold-rolled steel surface: The surface of the Cuisinart – Two Burner Portable griddle top is made of cold-rolled steel. It is thick and also has non-sticking characteristics.
Cold rolled surfaces are those that have been compressed into sheets by rollers. In this case, many sheets have been squashed together to produce the griddle top of the Cuisinart – Two Burner Griddle. Cold-rolled surface offers better surface finishes and close tolerances.
This means that the griddle top’s surface will be as smooth as leveled ground. Cold-rolled surfaces are also very hard and resistant to breaking. It has an oily feel when you touch it. However, I recommend that you use oil while cooking.
Using thick cold-rolled surfaces also make it difficult to scratch the griddle top. But you would still want to go easy on the surface when scraping food or clearing out grease. The non-stick material makes it easy to roll off food. Steel is used to cold-roll, so the surface does not rust.
- 2 Burners that produce 20,000BTU: The Cuisinart – two Burner portable griddle makes use of two burners to heat food. These burners are both connected to a propane tank and can produce more than enough heat for your grilling requirements. They are located under the griddle top, and they heat the cooking surface.
Each burner produces over 20,000BTU of heat. This is impressive for a small-sized flat top grill like the Cuisinart –two Burner portable griddle. They can supply enough heat that will take the temperature from 0 to 400 degrees in a couple of minutes.
Having two burners means that you can heat the griddle faster than one-burner griddles. There is no need to power cook. The burners can get so hot that they could begin to melt the plastic casing if care is not taken. So, be cautious when increasing the temperatures. The two burners provide two zones for cooking and grilling. They are U-shaped tubes and also connected to the temperature knobs. You will hardly see blue smoke when using these burners.
- Twist-to-start ignition: The Cuisinart – two Burner portable griddle makes use of a twist-to-start-ignition system. This is unlike other griddles that usually come with a push-to-start button. This twist knobs are located in front of the griddle.
How this ignition system works is quite fascinating. There is no power-on button before you begin grilling or cooking. All you have to do is twist the two temperature buttons anti-clockwise, and the burners will come alive. After cooking, always remember to return the temperature controls to the ‘Off’ location. You can do this by twisting the two knobs clockwise.
The temperature control is also made of stainless steel but is very smooth to turn. Also, there is a rubber strip around each knob that helps you grip the controls. I like that no sound is made when you twist the knobs from ‘on’ to the ‘off’ position in the Cuisinart portable griddle. The arrowhead of the knob would determine the temperature at a particular time.
- 285 square inches of cooking surface: The surface of the Cuisinart – two Burner portable griddle is very large for its weight. You can fit six burgers comfortably on it. The small hole at the bottom right corner is put so that grease can flow from your food. The drip tray collects the grease from the cooking surface.
The 285-square inch cooking space is convenient for cooking or grilling meals for a small group of family or friends.
- Portable: The Cuisinart – two Burner griddle is one of the most portable griddles you can get in the market. It’s cooking surface is neither small nor big. It is made from light-weight stainless steel, so you can easily carry up the griddle alone. Unlike heavy-duty griddles, this two-burner Cuisinart griddle does not have wheels.
The Cuisinart – two Burner griddle has four legs on which the base is fitted on. Carrying the product from the bottom is very easy. But, you would need to use both hands. You can fit this griddle in your car’s boot easily.
Setting up the Cuisinart – two Burner griddle is a walk in the park. You can assemble all the parts alone. But, it is good to have someone around that can help you lift the griddle. It takes about 10 minutes to put all the parts together in this griddle. The instruction manual was very explanatory of the steps to take when setting up the Cuisinart two-burner griddle.
You will need a screwdriver and a wrench to put all the parts together. Neither of these tools is provided with the griddle. All the parts of the griddle are also listed and identified in the manual. So, beginners would not need extra time to set it up. There are only three steps to follow when assembling the parts.
You should begin setting up the griddle when it is upright. Placing and tightening the griddle top is essential. Make sure the stand offs of the griddle top align properly with the griddle’s body. Then, screw in the legs of the griddle. You will be set to use the griddle after connecting the propane hose to the tank.
Before using the griddle, season it with oil. This is a test run I use to determine if the griddle is ready for use or not.
I like the convenient Cuisinart grill because its a unit that performs up to spec. You can grill the food you want at any location in your house. It cooks very well, and the temperature controls are very sensitive.
Cleaning and maintaining the Cuisinart griddle is remarkably easy. After every cook, I recommend spraying the hot cooking surface with warm water while the griddle is still on. Then you can use a scraper or spatula to remove the debris. Instead of removing grease and debris like how you remove food, push it down the grease trap. You can then switch off your griddle and allow it to cool.
The Cuisinart griddle is known for its compactness. Even though it does not have wheels, you can easily move it about. The legs of the griddle are also very stable and strong. But don’t slide the griddle across a surface.
The food made with this griddle is just perfect. The burners heat meals evenly, and you have a wide range of temperatures to select from. If you cook small meals often, then this tailgating griddle will suit your needs. Note, however, that it does not have any shelf or storage compartment fixed on it. I advise that you purchase a sliding shelf accessory to help store your tools. It has all the functions of a restaurant grill.
The cooking surface of the Cuisinart two-burner griddle is made of extra thick cold-rolled steel. Its surface is also non-stick, so you don’t need to be worried about tough stains and debris. It does not have wheels but its handle is also made of stainless steel. This shiny metal is best to reduce rusting as this griddle should be used outdoors only.
You can use this griddle every day. Washing with water will not corrode the stainless-steel body of the griddle. However, it is advisable that you season the griddle instead. You would need to use a stand when using the flat top grill outside. I love the stand and other accessories that the company provides. Most of them are also made of stainless steel.
The grate of the griddle is removable and made of cast iron. You have the option of searing meat with its griddle surface. I noticed that the griddle does not have a tray, and its legs are also made of stainless steel.
The two-burner Cuisinart griddle is very tough and among the most durable griddles available. Even though it can withstand a few bumps and knocks, don’t throw it about. If properly maintained and cleaned, this griddle can last for several years.
The warranty of the two-burner Cuisine griddle lasts for three years from the date when you buy it. But any damage to the griddle related to enamelling should be reported within 30 days. You would be asked to provide a receipt of payment, so keep it handy.
- Heats evenly
- Easy-to-use ignition system
- The good grease removal system
- No grill cover
- Overheating of the grate may occur
- Difficult to clean drip tray
- Small drip removal space
- No wheels and short legs
The Cuisinart two-burner grill gives you great value for your money. It is well-built, and all components are made of stainless steel. The fitting used in this griddle are made from the best quality. It heats up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit in a little over 7 minutes. This heating capacity is pretty impressive for two burners. There is a built-in thermometer that is very sensitive and provides accurate results. The twist-to-start ignition is a great feature that I love. You can store this griddle in a horizontal or vertical position, and it looks just like a suitcase.
The light-gauged stainless-steel used in the Cuisinart griddle is impressive. Light-gauge means that it heats up and cools quickly. But this feature may not be great when you want to heat the griddle to a particular temperature and hold it there. The dome is quite shallow, so you can’t cook humungous food in it. But what I love the most in the Cuisinart two-burner griddle is its ability to be cleaned in a dishwasher. The cooktop, drip tray, and burner covers are removable and easy to clean.
This griddle fits perfectly on a patio. You would appreciate the compactness of this flat top grill if you’ve used a bigger grill before. The grease catcher is quite small. If you cook lots of food at a go, then you have to be careful so that the grease doesn’t catch fire.
I like that this griddle is very durable. The Cuisinart griddle costs just a little over $100 and is perfect for intermediates and beginners.
Camp Chef – Outdoor Propane Griddle
- Dimensions: 16 x 38 inches
- Weight: 46 pounds
- Grilling Area: 592 square inches
- Fuel Type: Propane
- Construction: Heavy-duty steel
- Grill Construction: Rectangular shaped, with edged.
- Wheels: No
- Legs: No
- Handles: Yes
- Huge cooking Area: The griddle has a 592-square inch griddle design. It is made out of heavy-duty steel. This means that it will last long and is very durable. You can place up to 16 burgers at once on this griddle. So, this griddle is perfect for parties and large cookouts. The design of the griddle is top-notch.
The Camp chef propane griddle is only an accessory for the Camp Chef grill. You can use it for cooking for up to 6 people easily. You can also use it to cook any type of food. This griddle is versatile and can be used in other grills.
The cooking area of the Camp chef outdoor griddle is made from non-stick material. So, you can fry, cook, and grill without using too much oil. Food becomes easy to remove from the surface whenever I use this griddle. I like that I don’t need to cook in batches with this griddle.
- Convenient to carry around: The Camp chef griddle is fairly heavy at 46-pounds. But this doesn’t mean you can’t carry it about. There is a handle that you can use to lift the griddle. This handle is located at one of the sides.
The handle is designed in a way that makes it easy to grab and carry around. You might need to use two hands, however, because the griddle can knock you over. The handle is made from steel and has threading that makes it easy to hold on to it. It is machined firmly to the flat side of the griddle.
- Even heat distribution: The heat from a burner will be evenly distributed with this griddle. The griddle uses heat diffusing plates to distribute heat to your food. When the burner from a grill heats up, the griddle gets it and spreads it evenly across its surface.
I like this feature, especially when you have adjustable heating zones on a grill. If it is placed on a grill with two burners, it can provide two separate zones for your food. But the Camp chef griddle is huge. It can also provide even distribution of heat in three zones when placed on a three-burner grill.
You wouldn’t get blowout when using this griddle. The cooking surface absorbs heat quickly and distributes it. It is painted black so that it can do this absorption easily. You can enjoy a well-cooked brisket that will jiggle. This is a feature that pit bosses look for in outside portable griddles like the Camp chef griddle. Everything you put on this griddle will be perfectly cooked.
- Grease drain: The Camp chef griddle has a grease draining system at its back. Unlike in the rear grease management system, the grease flows through the tiny holes. The Camp chef griddle also includes a grease drain and cup holder.
The grease cup can be attached to any spot on the griddle. While cooking food or seasoning, you will need to get rid of oil. You can use the grease cup holder to remove the fat and oil from the cooking space. But, the grease cup included may be too small to contain all the grease from your food. This is a small price to pay instead of allowing grease to accumulate in your food.
- Out of the box and ready to use: This griddle does not have legs, handles or wheels. It is packaged properly in a box. You can begin cooking with the Camp chef griddle immediately you remove it from the pack. The griddle does not require any setup.
The Camp chef griddle works just as good as it is advertised to be. I am impressed with all the features that the griddle is said to have. You will love this griddle if you cook for parties. The cooking surface is excellent. The holes under the griddle top are just perfect for even distribution of heat. Within a few minutes, the surface gets hot.
The temperature controls are also very useful in heat regulation. Never go past the medium point of a grill when using this accessory. If you do, your food will get burnt. Meals made with this griddle get perfectly cooked. Although it doesn’t have a timer, you can use a spatula to check the condition of your food.
I think the Camp chef griddle is one of the easiest flat tops to clean. You should use warm soapy water to wash the griddle the first time you use it. Other times, it is advisable that you season it. Even though it has a handle, this griddle is heavy. You need to use both hands to lift and place on grills. It adapts very well to the surface of any grill. The Camp chef griddle can be used on a three-burner grill.
The Camp chef griddle is completely made from steel. It does not have legs or wheels. The griddle surface will darken every time you use it. I feel its alright if it accumulates patina. You do not need to worry about breaking this griddle. It absorbs any knock or bumps that it may be subjected to. It is very rigid and strong.
The Camp chef griddle has a 90-day warranty for the parts and workmanship. Be sure that you follow all the rules on how to use the griddle that is included in the manual. Natural disasters will not be catered for by the warranty.
- Heats quickly
- Has a handle
- Large cooking surface
- Even distribution of heat
- An efficient grease drainage system
- No grease cover
- Can overheat
- Very heavy
- Short warranty period
- Cooking surface antiques after use
The Camp chef griddle is terrific. You can use it for cooking any type of food. It is particularly useful for cookouts. My friends love it when we cook whole meals with this griddle. Its large cooking space allows me to use it to prepare all the meals for a day. The surface of this griddle heats up quickly. With low settings, you can grill and cook eggs and pancakes. But, you have to be very careful about increasing heat when using this griddle. If your grill is heated too high, the griddle can warp.
The griddle comes with in-built diffusers that reduce the hot spots on its surface. So you don’t need to be worried about unevenly cooked meals. You can place this griddle on a two or three-burner grill, and it will work perfectly. This will allow you to have two or three zones to cook, grill, or warm food on as the case may be. I don’t like the fact that the griddle takes a long time to cool off, though.
Cleaning the Camp chef griddle is a breeze. You should follow the instructions in the manual on how it should be cleaned. The grease cup holder is too small for the cooking size. So, you should consider getting another- a bigger grease cup or drip tray. You can also buy a case to use to haul the griddle.
The Camp chef griddle is strong, tough, and durable. You may never find another griddle that will be as strong as this. It is easy to use and has a handle so you can easily carry it. Its steel color may darken after almost every use. You should keep the Camp chef griddle very close to the grill that you want to use it with as it may be incredibly heavy to lift.
The griddle costs a little over $100, and you will get value for your money if you buy this product.
Royal Gourmet PD1300

- Grilling Area: 316 square inches
- How Much Food Can It Hold: 12 burgers
- Fuel Type: Propane
- Construction: Griddle top on a body
- Grill Construction: Enamel
- Wheels: No
- Legs: Yes. 4
- Handles: No
- Piezoelectric ignition system: This type of ignition system is common among portable griddles and grills. The Royal Gourmet griddle makes use of piezoelectricity to start up. Electric charge is accumulated in some materials when they are subjected to high pressure. This is the principle of the piezoelectric ignition system.
There is a small hammer that hits a quartz crystal when the button is pushed. Quartz creates a voltage when it is deformed by the voltage. This voltage is high and causes the ignition of the gas. The piezoelectric ignition system does not use electrical connections or wires to start up the griddle.
The ignition button is labeled ‘ignitor’ on the griddle. It is located between two temperature controls. Just a push of the ignitor button starts the process. The gas from the propane tank is then transferred to the burners after the griddle is started. I like this system of ignition because it makes the griddle easier to use.
- Porcelain Coated Griddle: The Royal Gourmet PD 1300 makes use of the porcelain coatings on its griddle top. Porcelain enamel is a type of glass that is bonded with iron, stainless steel or aluminum. The porcelain coating of this griddle’s top is bonded with stainless steel.
This coating makes the griddle top hard. I like that it also gives the cooking surface a lustrous look. The surface of the griddle top will not corrode, scratch, or fade when you use it, however, if you drop utensils on this cooking space, the coating my crap or chip off.
The porcelain coating used in the Royal Gourmet griddle is easy to clean. It is the perfect stick and stain resistant material that you can get on a griddle. You should not use wool pads or household cleaners on the surface. These would scratch the coating off. Since the griddle is compact, you can put it inside a dishwasher to remove tough stains.
- Grease Drip cup: The Royal Gourmet also comes with a side drip cup. This cup is removable and easy to wash and clean. I like that it is on the side, so it doesn’t disturb you while you grill. There is a hole by the side to put the grease cup in.
Taking a closer look at the drip cup that comes with this griddle shows that it is just the perfect size. You can cook meals for two days without having to clean it up. However, I recommend that you clean it immediately after every use. It has a little V-like shape that allows you to grip it well.
The grease removal system of the Royal Gourmet’s PD1300 is different from other griddles. Grease can accumulate anywhere on the cooking surface. You would have to push grease towards the side where the drip cup is. Be careful to not spill the oil over when doing so.
- Three Burners: Very few portable griddles can boast of having three burners. The PD1300 Royal Gourmet is one of such griddles. The three burners of this griddle operate independently of one another. They are all connected to a temperature knob and a 20-pound propane tank.
The burners on this griddle heat up fast. They go to 400 degrees Fahrenheit in about 5 minutes. However, each of them has a 9,000BTU output. When the piezoelectric button is pushed, the propane tank supplies propane to the burners. The knobs can be used to control the heat supplied to the griddle top.
The burners of the Royal Gourmet are circular unlike in other griddles. It forms a blue flame when supplied with propane. These separately controlled burners give you three different settings to grill food at the same time. The stainless steel burners are in-built and are placed on a control panel. You can use direct and indirect heat for two-zone cooking in this griddle.
- Stainless steel control panel: Unlike the cooking surface, the control panel is not porcelain coated. Instead, it is made of stainless steel. Stainless steel is a very durable metal, and the quality used in this griddle is one of the best available. It is lustrous and glossy to touch.
Three temperature knobs are located on the control panel. The ignition button is also placed on it. There are a few instructions and the company’s logo on either side of the control panel.
Setting up the Royal Gourmet PD 1300 should be very easy for anyone to do. You can assemble all the parts on your own. I advise that you check if all the parts are available before beginning the assembly process. You will need a Phillips screwdriver and a wrench to put all the parts in this griddle together. There are five main parts in the box, and neither of these two tools is included in the box.
The instruction manual uses clear pictures to explain the steps involved in assembling the parts. Not every part needs to be put together. Some already come semi-assembled. It takes about 10 minutes to set up the griddle.
You should start by placing the legs on the griddle. Use a wrench to tighten the legs but not too tight that it will break. Do this when the top of the griddle is turned down. Next, attach the griddle carefully on the griddle base. Then attach the grease cup. If the burner does not light after assembling the parts, consider using a match. Since the cooking surface is porcelain coated, there is no need to season it. You can begin cooking your delicious meal after assembling the parts.
There is nothing more that you can ask from a portable griddle that the Royal Gourmet PD 1300 does not provide. It cooks food well with its three burners. You can decide to carry out different heating functions with all three of them. The porcelain coating is an excellent and standout feature of this grill. Unlike warping that you would expect from a steel or cast-iron griddle, the Royal Gourmet’s heats and cools easily.
The surface is smooth and easy to cook on. However, use blunt utensils on the griddle’s surface, so you don’t scratch it. Cleaning the product is not so difficult. I usually leave the maintenance to my children because they see it as fun. Do not forget the grease cup when cleaning. The griddle top is quite small but would not fit into a dishwasher.
Even though it does not have a handle, the Royal Gourmet PD1300 is compact and portable. It comes in a tiny box that I still use to pack the griddle. There are several temperature settings to choose from. There is no storage in this griddle. Neither are there hooks or shelves to keep your tools. The Royal Gourmet PD1300 is designed to be moveable and cooks food well.
The surface of the Royal Gourmet PD1300 is very smooth and made of porcelain coating. This shiny and attractive coating is durable and stick-resistant. Unlike many heavy-duty griddles, this flat top grill does not have wheels. The porcelain coating will protect your griddle from harsh weather conditions.
This griddle from Royal Gourmet can be used to cook meals every day. The coating is very smooth, so you do not need to season the griddle before use. I prefer to use the stand with this product. Royal Gourmet has a couple of griddle stands that can be used with the griddle. Most of them are made of the accessories are made of stainless steel.
The stainless-steel control panel is very lustrous and smooth. There is no tray in this griddle, but its legs are made of quality stainless steel. The Royal Gourmet PD1300 is a tough griddle that should last you for a long time if used properly.
- Easy storage
- Surfaces are easy to clean
- Durable grill slate
- Compact, lightweight and portable
- Safe to use
- Short tubing and bad regulator
- No cleaning tools
- Limited ability to supply heat
- Wobbly legs
- Difficult to remove the drip pan
I think the Royal Gourmet PD 1300 is an excellent griddle for outdoor cooking. It has a grill cover, which most griddle-making companies seem to forget is necessary. The griddle does not have a shelf or compartment system, which is a feature that most pit bosses need. I like that the griddle has three burners. This is impressive for a portable griddle. However, the burners have limited heat supply. You would expect that this three-burner griddle will produce more than 27,000 BTU while cooking.
I love the design on this griddle. The griddle top could have been bolted instead so that the top wouldn’t be damaged if the griddle falls. The quality assurance of products is quite poor. A lot of legs don’t seem to fit properly. The brass mounting also breaks off easily.
The griddle cooks food perfectly. There are no timers in this flat top grill, so you have got to be watchful about the condition of your meal. It takes about ten minutes to move the griddle from 0 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and longer to cool off. The three burners provide adjustable heat zones, so you can warm, cook and grill at the same time.
The porcelain coating on the Royal Gourmet PD 1300 is definitely the standout feature of this product. This coating is lustrous and hard. It protects the surface from corrosion and scratches. However, the coating can peel off if you use sharp utensils on it. I like that other parts are made of stainless steel, and are also resistant to corrosion.
This flat top grill makes use of a 20lb propane tank as its source of fuel. The piezo-electric system of igniting the burners is quite impressive. I like that each burner has its knob to control its temperature. The drip cup is a bit difficult to use. It would have been easier if it was located at the back instead of at a side. This griddle cost a little over $100.
